Finding treasures on a Wild Hike

We went on another Wild Urban Park Tour this morning to Lindbergh Park where we found an abundance of treasures which ranged from owl poop to a broken Frisbee (which became a plate filled with “yummy” treats…)

The doors to the van hadn’t even finished closing and the kids were already at the top of the Spider Web!

The kids climbed and jumped and played while waiting for other families to arrive.

We were lucky to have my sister-in-law and her two children join us today.

I was too shy to ask the other parents if their children could be photographed so I didn’t include any other families in the pictures… But they were there, having fun right along with us 😊!

We diverted from the playground and immediately found a most beautiful sight…

PURPLE FLOWERS!! (Crocus to be exact!)

After admiring the first sign of spring, we began our hike through the patches of wilderness that sits on either side of the park.

Once we got into the thick of the trees, the exploring really began!

The children had the most fun finding trash… I mean treasures! LOL

After the hike Simone and cousin Valerie played Little House on the Prairie with all their treasures!

(Below you can see the broken blue Frisbee which has been transformed into a plate.)

They included some awesome nature treasures too as prairie food!

My favorite thing that we learned today was how to identify owl poop!

An owl’s dropping is much larger than the average bird dropping!

Moments after identifying the owl poop- some of us saw an owl fly off a tree and into the nearby neighborhood!  WAY COOL!!!

More evidence of the owl, was the bunny fur that was found in clumps throughout the grassy field!  Proof of a successful hunt!

We also found at least 10 burrows – probably belonging to groundhogs!

  

And of course… Eddie tried to get in one!

While we were hiking, no one could stand leaving all the “real” trash on the ground!

Everyone helped collect trash (mostly plastic bottles and bags).

Next time, I’m bringing a large trash bag because there was SADLY just too much trash 😦

Cindy ended up being the trash bag holder (and she did a lovely job – LOL)

It was really neat to be part of a group that enjoys the wild outdoors! 😊
