Land Snakes Alive 🐍
Today we went to the river with some friends to celebrate Memorial Day 🇺🇸 
We had a fantastic day in the sun ☀️
Burying each other 
I LOVE how much Simone laughed at Eddie as he escaped from the sand!
Jumping out of trees into the water… I even jumped… What a Thrill!
If you were to ask the children, though, what their favorite part of the day was…
… They would say finding the dead snake!
They were in such awe 🐍 at this amazing creature!
It’s not everyday you get to touch, feel, hold, and actually examine a wild snake up close!
I admit that I was a bit scared at first…
The kids noticed it had stab wounds up and down its body and we wondered how they got them.
Perhaps a bird attacked it and pecked it?
I want to teach my kids to respect snakes and not fear them. Yes, some are vernomous- but I refuse to believe the saying the only good snake is a dead snake!
* A WILD Unschooling opportunity *
We will go to the library tomorrow to look up snakes. The kids had ALL KINDS of questions and the experience will be fresh to help them understand and retain snake knowledge🐍 which means we will be prepared for when we see a live snake in the wild!
(Yes- we used hand sanitizer when we were done learning about the snake)

Becoming a Wild Family 
My kids have a few skeletons lying around as well as a dead snake and mole outside, so that they can observe them decay. What happens when the day comes, they carry a scalpel, just in case we come upon a dead animal and want to dissect? I read a post of a homeschooling family that does just that. I remember thinking “that is not gonna happen to me”. Now we live in the woods, I refer you to my first sentence.

What an inspiration you are! I was tempted to bring the snake home because the kids wanted to know what the snake had eaten! I’m not that sure of myself… yet!

Oh my, I don’t think I could that either. Not yet anyway. I’m fairly well still horrified by it, but do find myself calling the kids over to look at something gross, because it makes their eyes light. I mean what else ya gonna do?

You’re so brave! I would never have touched a snake- dead or alive! My son, on the other hand, goes out looking for snakes almost every day and TRIES to get bit to see what it feels like. (Don’t be alarmed. He’s 16 and has throughly researched the venomous snakes in our state- there are three- and he knows how to identify them.)

Oh I was scared LOL! Know what’s weird- as I was writing the comment my 10 year old son called me to say that he (and his dad) just saved a snake from a gas station parking lot by scaring it back into the grass! I have a feeling my son will be much like your son… After he has done his research… And without the bites 😉 LOL
