When sewing scissors turn into hair-cutting scissors
So… Here is the ugly truth…
My family has lice π³
I am not ashamed or embarrassed or angry…
I am a bit creeped out and overwhelmed!Β
But… This was the motivation I needed to get my hair cut! I know you don’t have to cut your hair if you have lice… But I decided Β to take the easy route – and my DEAR HUSBAND cut it for me!
First Eddie used the blow dryer on me because it is an effective way to KILL lice and their eggs.
…about to get the first cut…
My stylists:
daughter Simone and hubby JoshΒ
My super sharp sewing scissors turned hair-cutting scissors!
Β
The haircut was so much fun!
Josh and Simone watched a YouTube video and then…
Josh started to cut away!
About this time… We got nervous! π΅
We did call two of my sisters and my mom to get advice on how to proceed!
I love my new haircut!
Β Josh did a stellar job π
I know this lice-fiasco is not even close to Β being over… lots of hair treatments and loads of wash are in my future…
But I do feel like a new WILD person! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈπΈ

Your new do looks cute! I hope you get over the lice soon! I’ve read they’re a bit harder to get of than when I was a kid.

Thank you- I love it short! I’ve been spending lots of time washing and combing! Everyone’s head look great… Yay! But I know I have to keep the routine up for many more days. The kids have been good sports, though π

Love the new haircut. Your stylists did great! I have never had lice, knock on wood, so don’t know what all has to happen to get rid of them. I hope you do soon. I think that would creep me out too. Do you know where you picked them up?

We have no idea where the lice came from – but I figure it was an unsuspecting family like us LOL! Josh did a great job cutting my hair and we hall laughed so hard as he did π this has been quite the experience but everyone’s head looks good! I figure about a week more of special washing and combing and we should be golden… I hope!

I hope so too!

You look great! Several years ago when my kids were still in school, they got lice from another student. It was horrible. It took us over a month until everyone was lice-free because we have so many kids, and it just kept going around and around again. I hope you’re all free and clear soon!

Thank you!! I am loving the short hairπ I’m trying to give everyone the same amount of hair treatment and combing and attention so we don’t pass it around. Thankfully everyone’s head looks good today (after hours and hours of washing and combing) – now to stay on top of it with hours and hours of washing and combing LOL! I’m sorry you had to deal with it- sounds like a nightmare!

It looks lovely! My wife misses her super short locks from a few years ago. I’m sure she’d be jealous.
No worries about the lice. It happens. One of my best friends daughters caught lice like 3 times over the last 2 years. Heck, we had a scare at our son’s school, too. It’s the one advantage of having only boys: It all comes off and we’re done.
In the meantime, here’s to really hot water washes of bedclothes and nothing but clear combs from here on out!

Brush through with lots of conditioner with a fine comb and wash with tea tree. My mum is a hairdresser and this kept myself and my sister free. If you can plait hair, it stops them climbing up. Remember they go for clean hair too!
Your new hair is lovely x

I don’t have lice and that is what I want to do to my hair too. It’s shoulder length, been dyed way too much and grays are coming in. I don’t even care. I just want my natural head of hair, not this dyed stuff. I also just want to be natural and not be a slave to my hair anymore. Chemicals are no good. I want to be healthy. So I might be lobbing off my locks this week too. Very cute! Hey, if you are game, I nominated your for the Liebster award. Check it out: http://www.socialanemia.com/blogging/the-liebster-award-goes-to/

Thank you! I’ve vowed not to color my hair any more… This is a great opportunity to let my natural hair shine- gray and silver too LOL! If you cut your hair, I hope to see a picture!! Thank you for the nomination π have a great holiday! πΊπΈ

I have been seeing my grays becoming too numerous and while I was not ready to go grey, I was not going to put the toxic chemicals rhat not only destroy your hair but are carcinogenic on my head. So my husband helped me go the henna route. I get great color, shine and it leaves my hair so soft. He mixed the henna with coconut oil and apple cider vinegar and applied it for me. I told him being he cuts my hair, he has been doing it for me since we first met, colorist is part of the job description. So if you are not ready to go grey, go henna. I have also heard an application of henna will smother the lice and the eggs.

I’ll look into henna! My kids keep teasing me about my gray roots and although it’s all in fun- I don’t want to end up looking older than I am!! That’s awesome your husband was able to help apply the Henna!!

I up vote the tea tree. Sorry about the lice, but it happens to us all. Especially when life is lived in the wilds. We must share with the bugs, even when we don’t want to.

Isn’t that the truth! I have found great success with the tea tree oil! The kids all had clear combs but I’ll keep treating just to be sure!! I will say that there is something special about combing your child’s hair… Something very personal and loving! I found the experience to be a family event that brought us closer πΈ

Love your new do!! I see tea tree oil came up. We found a “recipe” online when this happened to us that also included geranium oil and one or two others that I can’t remember. We applied it and wore shower caps just a couple of times and it worked great! I hope this clears up fast for you – such a pain!!

The tea tree has been wonderful! I think I combed heads for the last time this morning π YAY!! I’m going to keep spraying the tea tree alcohol spray morning and night for a few more days. I’ll look up geranium – thanks for the tip! Sounds like you had good success with it!

It looks great! You are so brave to let your husband cut your hair π Hopefully you can get the lice under control soon. That is never a fun thing to deal with.

Now that you have successfully received your first haircut from your husband, is he going to remain your stylist? After my then boyfriend gave me my first haircut by him, I have not been back to the salon. Why pay for someone to do what they want to your hair, when my husband does what I ask for free? And he always gives me a great haircut.

I just asked him for a trim… Hopefully it turns out π I would love him to continue being my hair stylist… I love short hair but hate paying for frequent haircuts so hopefully this works out!!

For future haircuts, I would recommend you get a decent haircutting cape and hair shears. They have thinner blades, easier to cut hair with. And keep them sharp, so they cut cleanly. Also a set of clips and a rat tail comb for sectioning the hair. My husband uses the hair clips to secure the upper sections of hair while he starts at my nape and works his way up to the top. Also watch a few more YouTube videos with your husband before the next haircut. Some are really good, but some are just a couple people goofing around and making a mess of a hack job. And take your time, don’t rush the haircut. I enjoy the one-on-one time when my husband combs my hair, sections it and then the feeling of the comb on my back feels like a massage. I feel pampered, I also get a great result, and I don’t have the hassle, time wasted or expense of the salon. My neighbor pays $140 every six weeks to get her hair cut and colored. Mine is FREE, except for the cost of the henna, less than $40 a year and I know my hair comes out better. π I have had a couple coworkers ask if he takes appointments, but I tell them he is MY personal stylist, no one else, except my children of course, why pay someone to screw up their haircuts when hubby does them for free?
